Evacuateing New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina
Have you ever sean the movie "Deep Impact" whell their is a scene where everyone is evacuating the city and that was such the scene while evacuating New Orleans but this time it was real!

On Saturday August 27, 2005 The state police implemented what they call "Contra Flow" where all lanes on the interstates flow in one direction... And it worked great that Saturday and Sunday. Hardly any traffic on the interstate but all the secondary roade were packed because people couldn't drive on the interstate unless you were ready to evacuate.

We made preprations to leave the city on Monday morning the last chance to get out before the storm hit. We had to waite till then because my wifes mother was visiting from Florida and was scheduled to fly back that morning and she was taking our son with her for a week too. So needless to say we had to stay back to make sure there flight did takeoff and was not cancled for any reason.

We packed snacks and soda for the trip and took all the meat from the frezer to my sisters house in Ponchatoula. A change of cloths and a book to keep us bussy in the event of mental escape. The roads Monday morning were crazy! A total oppiset of the days before. Maybe it was because Sunday night the Mayor Ray Nagin came on the TV and said "That the head of the Miami Hurricane Center had called disturbing a leasurley dinner with his wife and daughter" and tolled him that this was going to be the BIG one! Not many people in the city have cars we rely heavely on public transportation and many of those who do have cars they arn't very good. We saw people loaded in cars and trucks bringing pets and belongings. Lots of cars breaking down for just being poor or over heating in dead lock traffic. We were heading to Ponchatoula so we got in the lanes turning North at I-55 in LaPlacewhen we hit LaPlace we got off the interstate and took the old highway throu Manshack. It was smooth sailing from their. we could still see the line of cars on the interstate while crusing over the Manshack bridge. We made it to my sisters in about five hours... a drive that usualy takes less than one hour.
